He has PCH, lol told you I had the initials wrong! - its full name is "paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria"
Basically the dr said its the human Cold virus that has got into the blood stream and attacked the red blood cells and caused them to break down. They are then picked up by the white Plasma cells and 'overload' them. The white blood cells absorb the 'loose' haemoglibin and casuse it to clot, they then get flushed into the kidneys for cleaning, but the kidneys cant cope & shut down.
They have had to do diaysis, and plasma exchanges, taking out Charlies infected plasma, and putting in new plasma to flush out the virus thats still in his system and give his own blood chance to repair itself.
He's been on Dialysis since last Sunday, and on plasma exchanges, the poor Drs have realy been tested cos they are literaly learning as they go along with Charlie, theres no precedent cos no one in England has seen this before!
They moved him out of ICU today and into a renal ward, hes going to be on Dialysis for a few weeks at least, but they think they have it under control and we have learnt something interesting, it would seem our Charlie has un-even sized Kidneys, ones half sized, and ones one & half sized, they think he was born like that tho, and if he hadnt caught this virus then we may never have known.
